GWR Hole & Sons Meat Sales

We are a family business and have farmed in Purbeck for 45 years. We have been selling our lamb and pork for a number of years to friends and family, but since 2005 we have increased this aspect of our business as demand for locally produced meat has soared!

Our policy is simple...
  • We farm in a manner that protects the environment, wildlife and character of the Purbeck landscape.
  • All animals are reared on our farms, so you know where your meat has come from and how it was produced.
  • We aim to minimise "food miles" at every opportunity.
  • We use a small, modern, farmer-owned slaughter-house.
  • The meat is allowed to hang on the bone to fully mature for maximum natural flavour and tenderness.
  • No additives, flavourings or tenderisers are used in any of our meat.
  • The meat is professionally butchered.
  • We are registered with Farm Assured British Beef and Lamb (FABBL), Assured Combinable Crops (ACC) and the National Dairy Farm Assurance Scheme (NDFAS).

Lamb Beef Pork
Our ewes are North Country Mules and Poll Dorset Horn Cross; the rams are Suffolk and Dorset Downs, Texel and Charolais. We lamb in January, March and May which means we can normally guarantee fresh lamb all year round.

The lambs are almost entirely fattened on grass, with a little supplementary feed necessary in the early spring and autumn/winter, resulting in a carcass that is lean but with just the right amount of fat for better cooking.

Boxed ½ Lamb

Contains...
  • 2 x 1.1kg half leg joints (or whole if you wish)
  • 1 x 2.75kg whole shoulder
  • 1 x 0.75kg rolled breast
  • 2 x chump steaks
  • Approx 12 x chops/cutlets
  • Liver and kidney may also be available
  • This brings it to a total weight of approximately 9kgs at around £50-£58.

Our beef cattle are bred from our dairies using Limousin and Charolais beef bulls and the resulting Friesian Cross produces that unique flavour and tenderness that is characteristic of our beef. The cattle are fattened on grass in the summer and in straw yards with our own silage and barley in the winter.

    Boxed 1/16 Beef

    Contains...

  • This brings it to a total weight of approximately 15kgs at around £80-£100.

Our pigs are the only animals that are not born on the farm, but we buy in gilts as weaners from a local farm in Purbeck. They are traditional Landrace cross Large White Breed, and we finish them on our own home-grown ground barley and milk from the dairy. The resulting flavour of our pork is quite simply out of this world!

Unfortunately at the moment, pork is generally not available between July and October.
